If I decided to speak to a police officer without the presence of an attorney, what would happen?

If you choose to speak to the police without the presence of an attorney, then anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.


Never speak to a police officer without an attorney present.


Generally, the only questions and information a person must answer involve identifying themselves to law enforcement or providing documents during a traffic stop. Beyond that, the Fifth Amendment provides the basis for a person to refuse to answer any further questions.
