On Jan. 6—the same day as the rebellion at the U.S. Capitol—Black woman Keren Prescott was leading a Black Lives Matter protest outside the Connecticut Capitol building when she told an “all lives matter”-spewing white woman, Yuliya Gilshteyn, to “back up,” because she wasn’t wearing a face mask. All Prescott wanted was to get this maskless white woman TF out of her face—instead, Gilshteyn spat on her. Gilshteyn was arrested and charged with a hate crime behind the incident of flagrant Caucasian nastiness, but now that hate crime might be dropped, according to the Washington Post. #BLM

Advocates of police reform in Austin, Texas, cheered a year ago when the city agreed to release video from officers’ body cameras within 60 days of incidents in which they used force that caused serious injuries. But since then, only a single body camera video has been released on time - in a non-fatal police shooting. Footage from three fatal police shootings was made public past the deadline. In at least 10 use-of-force incidents during Black Lives Matter protests last year, the department did not release any video. #police #reform #BLM

Many Black people will tell you that any cop who would make light of police brutality is also capable of committing police brutality. In February, The Root reported that LAPD officers were under investigation for passing around an insensitive and racist AF photo of George Floyd formatted like a Valentine’s Day card that read, “You take my breath away.” Last Friday, an officer being investigated behind the allegations was cleared of all wrongdoing after a panel of civilians determined that they only shared it to bring it to the attention of their superior. #BLM

The administration at William Paterson saw things differently. While medical marijuana has been legal in New Jersey since 2010, using cannabis for recreational or medical purposes on campus is a violation of the university’s code of conduct, according to Mary Beth Zeman, director of the school’s public relations. University police may arrest students who are suspected of using marijuana, “depending on quantity and surrounding circumstances.” #medicalmarijuana #cannabis #college
