The state is on the verge of having legal recreational marijuana. Right now there are two state questions that aim to make the legalization of recreational marijuana happen: State Question 820 and State Question 819. State Question 820 would be a statutory amendment and it's already been passed by the state supreme court. And then there's State Question 819 a constitutional amendment currently being held up by the state supreme court. Read more here!

In a message sent to families and media on Thursday, the district said the move was in response to concerns surrounding a book titled "An ABC of Equality" and "others with similar topics" on the app called Epic! On the Epic! website, "An ABC of Equality" by Chana Ginelle Ewing is described as a book that "introduces complicated concepts surrounding social justice to the youngest of children." The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) recently launched an innovative online resource known as the Racial and Social Justice Hub. The new website is “a place to learn, grow, inquire, and share resources with one another that address social injustices and advocate for the preparation of profession-ready educators,” according to an AACTE press release. It offers links, educational and training materials, calls to action, and more focused on fighting censorship in the classroom, supporting LGBTQ students, and combating racism. Materials are designed for current K-12 and college educators as well as students preparing to earn teaching degrees. Read the full article here!

The Minnesota House of Representatives passed legislation with bipartisan support Monday that would make it illegal to discriminate against someone because of their hairstyle. After a series of incidents where employers ban hairstyles worn by Black employees like afros, braids and dreadlocks, and proceeded to fire those who refused to cut their hair, this bill will allow more people to show up as their authentic selves in school or in the workplace without fear of repercussions because of their hair.
