A man arrested on suspicion of domestic violence says he was shoved face first into a locker by a Hawthorne police officer, causing an injury that ruptured his right eye and left him blind. The incident was captured on video, which the city has yet to make public.

There is no justification or excuse for the officers’ use of excessive force toward this man. Regardless of what the suspect is accused of having done, they must be arrested with as little harm done to them as reasonably possible. This man never made a threat to the officers, or posed a legitimate danger to their health.
