In reviewing the video, Rayshard was searched for weapons and HAD NONE, he stole a taser from the officer and FIRED IT at officers, I believe discharging a taser at range discharges the cartridge, and the weapon can not be fired again without a new cartridge.
If an officer can only kill if they believe that person is an IMMINENT threat to officers or the public.
I THINK He is only holding a non functional weapon, he has ALREADY been identified by officers.
Doesn't that mean (1) he really isn't gonna get away in the long run, (2) he's not an immediate threat.
Brooks is killed after this, Any opinions?
Thanks for the resource
I don't understand how a tazer can be life threatening. Do not believe that it should be considered lethal force either.
In some states that might work, unfortunately, Georgia has defined "serious bodily harm" as including "extreme pain."
But that definition doesn't apply to things cops do as long as those things have not been explicitly prohibited by at least an appeals court. (Qualified Immunity).
@RJ "Deke" Dieken if the officer is saying a teaser is life threatening… then can that be used as precedent for everytime a officer uses a taser to be considered “lethal force“..? they trying to have it both ways.
A man should not be killed for a DUI stop. Rayshard Brooks Was shot in the back, he was running away when he tried to use the taser. The officer claiming that their life was threatenEd is bullshit.
“an officer can only kill if they believe that person is an IMMINENT threat to officers or the public.” That clearly is no longer the case. It has changed to “an officer can only kill if they believe that person is disobedient and/or rude to officers”. Ego Drive!
