Voting rights advocates continue to urging West Virginian Senator Joe Manchin to end his impediment of key senate bills which will protect Americans' voting rights, increasing accessibility and efficiency in the voting process. With respect to the Senator's usual moderate stance, they claim there is no such thing as being moderate in issues concerning voting rights; either they will be protected or they will be denied. The preclearance requirement in the Voting Rights Act mandated clearing all voting law changes with either the Attorney General or a three judge federal panel in states with histories of voter suppression. However, with the requirement's repeal in 2013, those states have worked tirelessly to pass new restrictions against equal access to the polls, making it crucial to gather Senators on both sides of the isle to defend voting rights.
