Hi,
I have a friend who is very smart. He is an adult with a good job but he grew up in the South and I need help refuting some of the things he has said.
I think he believes that some people in BLM are murderers or have done bad things like that. How do I explain that not only is that not true, but the police or white supremacists are the murderers/brutalists?
Also: how do I explain that the January 6 insurrection was not “a riot of the unheard, like BLM riots” but something much worse?
Also: how do I explain former president Trump’s complicity in the January 6 riot, even though he did use the words “peaceful” to describe his desires for that day.
Also: is there a list of Trump’s examples of racist, sexist, anti-lgbt behavior I can use?
Oh this is horrible: how do I explain that one subset of the American population isn’t responsible for the majority of the crime, which also then leads to racism?
Last: how frequent or pervasive is racism in the police system? Also, why is it so pervasive?
I can’t tell if your asking a serious question or not?
Saying that all protesters are good and all cops are bad is a hard argument to win. Sure the BLM movement will go down in the history books as a huge change in the US but you cannot claim they are all good. What about the BLM protestor that shot the cops on cold blood in Dallas. Or the two murders that happened in CAZ, or the ones that burned and looted while others were tying to be peaceful.
January 6th was different because they not only were protesting, they were going after our democracy. People have to learn how to protest peacefully.
Saying that all police are guilty of racism is trying to change the definition of racism. One example- Arresting George Floyd was because he was on drugs and trying to commit fraud. Cauvin murdered him out of severe negligence. Claiming he was racist just based in these two things shows that anytime something happens to a person of color is a racism thing. Again, there are racist cops but there is also racist BLM members that practice reverse racism like the fella that forced a random stranger to their knees and made them beg forgiveness. Calling all cops racist is also not an accurate argument. So perhaps listen to what your friend is saying. If you have to ask for help to win an argument, perhaps you need to learn more on both sides. A handful of police brutality victims does not justify violence towards others.
Have a conversation if you like but at the end of the day his opinions are his opinions and you can either move past them and continue being friends, or die on the hill.
That's a very controversial topic. I do believe BLM is going too far at times . There are some bad apples in BLM . I think you should meet your friend in the middle. Everything is not black and white so to speak.
And Trump is a cunt . Not gonna get into that one.
