Mississippi officials pressed the Supreme Court to overturn its landmark Roe v. Wade decision as an expected flurry of written arguments got underway Thursday in one of the most closely watched abortion cases in years.

This case has been actively challenged since was first decided in 1973. Neither the arguments before or against the right to governmen-protected abortion have changed significantly since then. But the number of supporters for keeping Roe v. Wade intact has increased exponentially. We’ll watch the state’s challenges closely.
