Jasmine Rose Jones is a woman. But for much of the last 23 years, she was incarcerated in a men's facility, and she says she was subjected to rape, sexual assault and abuse, just because she is transgender.

I would imagine one reason for this being that prison guards and administration would have to be trained to supervize LGBTQ+ prisoners, and another being that the states likely believe it would cost more money to establish separate cells and wings for LGBTQ+ prisoners.
