Texas Democratic Senators performed a walk-out to show their dissent for Senate Bill 7, known as the Election Integrity Protection Act. While initially passing the Senate last on May 30, the loss of Democratic participation and support has brought the bill's progress to a firm halt for now.
Senate Bill 7 would ban drive-thru voting, ban voting on Sunday before 1p.m., reduce voting hours at precincts, and place stricter restrictions on mail-in voting. Democrate argue that these measures are directly aimed at making it more difficult for voters to reach the polls, cast ballots over long distances, and be able to vote at all due to the demands of their jobs during voting day. They also hold that they would make Texas state elections easier to overturn. Black Church leaders further argue that the 1p.m. Sunday restriction traces back to the Civil Rights Movement, as a tactic to prevent Black churches from bringing congregants to the polls to vote.
What does “walking out“? They need to rally the community members and have them to vote! Be heard!
I had no idea the background of restricting Sundays like that, its wild how you have something so blatantly racist and yet people continue. I can’t even believe these restrictions are beign fought for when the same people cried over mail in ballots being unjust
Those Dems better do everything they can to put a stop to this
