How do you choose a company for electronics and battery recycling
We have a pile of old office equipment and some batteries sitting in storage, and I need to move it out properly. How do you usually check that a recycling company is legit and handles everything by the rules? Any real experience is welcome.

I went through the same thing last year and my main takeaway was that the details matter more than the pricing page. I looked at whether the company explains how it separates batteries by chemistry type, since that is often either required or just standard practice, and whether data destruction is described in concrete terms instead of vague promises. One of the options I compared was Modern Waste Solutions, and here is roughly the level of description I would expect before agreeing to anything. They list electronics recycling, secure data destruction, on site hard drive shredding, X ray equipment deinstallation and full data center or UPS removal, which at least tells you what falls inside the scope. I would still ask for written confirmation of compliance standards and get the removal timeline in advance, because that is usually where surprises appear. Nothing here is an endorsement, just what I would check myself.
